COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Nutrition, Physical Activity and Health program provides a comprehensive education in the principles and practice of health, nutrition, and physical activity. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in human biology, nutrition, and the role of exercise in health, while developing key skills in communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Core modules cover the science of nutrition, human physiology, chronic disease, exercise and health psychology, and professional skills for nutritionists, with optional modules such as kinesiology, gym instructor training, and teaching. In the second year, students apply their knowledge to real-world contexts, exploring chronic diseases, dietary analysis, exercise, and public health nutrition, while gaining practical experience through health assessments and the use of dietary analysis software. Modules also examine the psychology of physical activity and public policy impacts on lifestyle and health. The final year focuses on advanced topics, including applied nutrition, dietary analysis, nutrition for sport and exercise, and public policy and health promotion, alongside a substantial independent research project that allows students to synthesize their learning and tackle complex health issues. Optional modules include advanced exercise physiology, work placements, and specialised studies in nutrition for specific populations. Throughout the program, students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing them for careers in community and public health, sports nutrition, and lifestyle management, with eligibility to achieve Registered Associate Nutritionist status.
