COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computing in Data and Information Systems is structured over three years to provide a comprehensive foundation in data management, analysis, and information systems. In the first year, students build core skills through compulsory modules in data analysis and visualisation, software development, computer architecture and operating systems, web and database concepts, network and cybersecurity essentials, and learning in the digital era. These modules establish technical competence and introduce students to the key principles underpinning modern information systems. The second year focuses on more advanced topics, including network operating systems and services, database application development, statistical programming, data security and compliance, geographical information systems, and creativity and value creation through collaborative projects. This year develops practical skills and contextual understanding, preparing students for industry applications and problem-solving in data-driven environments. In the final year, students specialise and apply their knowledge through an independent project, while exploring advanced areas such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, data warehousing and data mining, usability engineering, and emerging trends in technology. This combination of technical training, practical experience, and exposure to cutting-edge topics ensures graduates leave the program with strong analytical, programming, and problem-solving skills, ready to pursue careers in data analysis, systems development, information management, or related roles within the technology and business sectors.
