COURSE CURRICULUM

The Motorsport Engineering BEng (Hons) degree provides a structured progression through the principles and applications of mechanical and motorsport engineering. In the first year, students build a foundation in core engineering principles, design engineering, and electrical control systems, while gaining practical experience through workshops and the use of tools such as Computer-Aided Design and data analysis software. Modules in analytical methods, engineering science, and motorsport technology equip students with the skills needed for more advanced studies and real-world applications. In the second year, the focus shifts to high-performance racing vehicles, exploring vehicle dynamics, powertrain performance, efficiency, and aerodynamics. Students apply advanced simulation tools such as Computational Fluid Dynamics and Finite Element Analysis to investigate and enhance vehicle designs. This year also includes group design projects, thermodynamics, alternative propulsion systems, stress analysis, and engineering management, preparing students for collaborative and technical challenges. The final year delves into specialist areas including advanced motorsport dynamics, contemporary powertrain design, structural design, fluid analysis, and automotive materials and sustainability. Independent and group projects allow students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world motorsport problems, while environmental considerations ensure awareness of sustainable engineering practices. By the end of the program, graduates are prepared for careers in motorsport and automotive engineering, combining technical expertise, practical skills, and innovative problem-solving.
