COURSE CURRICULUM

The Automotive and Transport Design BA with Placement Year program provides a comprehensive pathway for students to develop the skills needed for a successful career in the transport industry. In the first year, students gain a foundation in both traditional and digital design techniques, learning drawing, clay modelling, and the use of computer-aided design (CAD) and Virtual Reality (VR). Core modules introduce vehicle technology, digital visualisation, and fundamental automotive design techniques through practical projects that combine creativity with functionality. The second year builds on these skills with advanced digital modelling, automotive surfacing, and professional practice, while students tackle more complex projects that include vehicles for land, sea, and air, emphasizing collaboration and real-world design challenges. The optional third year offers an Independent Professional Placement, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in the industry, apply their skills in a professional setting, and enhance employability. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through major design projects, including the Independent Project, Design Research, and Individual Major Project, which showcase creativity, technical expertise, and industry-ready solutions. By the end of the program, graduates will have a strong portfolio of innovative and sustainable designs, practical experience, and professional competencies, equipping them to enter the automotive and transport sector with confidence and creativity, ready to contribute to the future of vehicle design.
