COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the Work with Young People BA, you will establish a foundation in understanding young people and the contexts in which they live. Modules introduce key themes such as adolescence, advocacy, empowerment, and children’s rights, while counselling skills, mindfulness, and therapeutic practice equip you with essential communication tools. You will also explore the broader context of youth work, including working with communities and families. In the second year, the focus shifts to deepening both practical and theoretical knowledge. You will study social research methods, leadership, supervision, and management skills, while modules on mental health, well-being, and Adverse Childhood Experiences help you understand and respond to complex challenges young people face. Hands-on learning through focused practice provides real-world experience, and you will examine how young people can influence societal change. In the final year, the course prepares you for professional work, offering employability support and guidance on future career pathways. Modules cover complex issues such as trauma, exploitation, toxic childhood, and resilience, giving you tools to support young people effectively. The year concludes with a dissertation, allowing you to conduct independent research in an area of personal interest. Across three years, the program equips you with the knowledge, skills, and experience to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people.
