COURSE CURRICULUM

The Rural Enterprise Management BA (Hons) degree at Swansea College of Art UWTSD is structured to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of sustainable business practices within rural contexts. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in business management, focusing on sustainability and the rural economy. Core modules such as Global Business Challenges, Financial Management for Business Sustainability, Sustainable Enterprise, Contemporary Management Approaches, Distinctiveness and Regeneration, and Learning and Collaboration for Global Citizenship introduce students to the key issues affecting businesses locally and globally. The second year deepens this knowledge, exploring rural business dynamics, innovation, and policy impact. Students study Technological Change and Innovation, Rural Business and Diversification, Rural Resilience, Politics and Policy Analysis, and Business Inquiry and Research, alongside internship and volunteer opportunities to gain practical experience. Optional international mobility allows for global exposure. In the final year, students apply their learning in real-world settings through work-based placements and advanced modules such as Strategies for Resilience and Prosperity, Project Management for Sustainability, Globally Responsible Business, and Social Entrepreneurship. A Sustainable Business Dissertation enables students to research a specific area of interest, consolidating their understanding of rural enterprise management. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, analytical skills, creativity, and transferable management skills, preparing them for successful careers in rural enterprise, sustainable business, or related sectors.
