COURSE CURRICULUM

The Religion, Philosophy and Ethics BA (Hons) degree at Swansea College of Art UWTSD is structured to build a comprehensive understanding of philosophical, ethical, and religious concepts over three years. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation in ethics, ancient philosophy, political philosophy, and the study of religion and theology, exploring fundamental questions that have shaped human thought. Core modules such as An Introduction to Ethics, Ancient Philosophy, Freedom, Equality and Justice, Exploring the Study of Religion and Theology, and The Big Questions provide essential knowledge and analytical skills for understanding complex ideas. In the second year, students engage with more advanced philosophical theories and contemporary debates in ethics, exploring topics like existentialism, phenomenology, philosophy of mind, and global political and environmental issues. They also examine questions of gender, religion, sexuality, and social justice. A major focus of this year is the independent project, allowing students to conduct in-depth research on a topic of personal interest. Additional modules cover metaphysics, applied ethics, early modern and 20th-century philosophy, women and religion, activism, and global genocides, offering a broad and critical perspective. The program equips students with strong reasoning, analytical, and research skills, preparing them for careers in education, law, media, non-profits, or further academic study while fostering an appreciation of cultural and philosophical diversity.
