COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Education Studies program is structured over three years to help students understand how education develops across different stages of life while building strong academic and professional skills. In the first year, students explore both the historical and contemporary foundations of education and examine how learning takes place from childhood through adulthood. They study key topics such as learning theories, development across the lifespan, and the rights of children and young people, while also developing essential academic skills for university study. The course also encourages critical thinking about equality, diversity, and inclusion in education and how these issues influence educational experiences. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of teaching and learning through a variety of specialised modules. They explore inclusive education, alternative learning environments, community-based learning, and the importance of core subjects such as literacy and numeracy. Students also learn about becoming a primary educator and creative approaches to teaching and learning. During this year, they further develop their research abilities through educational research modules. In the final year, the program focuses on more advanced topics, including adult learning, curriculum development, assessment practices, and wellbeing in education. Students also complete an independent research project on a topic of their choice, allowing them to demonstrate their knowledge, research skills, and readiness for professional roles in the education sector.
