COURSE CURRICULUM

The Education Studies: Additional Learning Needs and Inclusion program is structured over three years to develop students’ understanding of education, inclusive practice, and support for learners with diverse needs. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of education studies, focusing on key areas such as child development and additional learning needs. They explore the history and development of education, learning theories, and the rights of children and young people. The year also examines how social policy influences education systems and encourages critical thinking about equality, diversity, and inclusion, while helping students develop essential academic skills. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of inclusive education and alternative learning environments. They study different approaches to classroom management, literacy and numeracy development, and creative teaching methods. This stage emphasises applying theoretical knowledge to real educational contexts and developing research skills through educational research modules. Students begin to explore how inclusive practices can support learners with different abilities and backgrounds. In the final year, the course focuses on advanced topics such as curriculum development, wellbeing in education, and therapeutic approaches to supporting individuals. Students examine how education can create positive change and support diverse learners. The program also includes an independent project, allowing students to investigate a topic of their choice and demonstrate their research skills and professional readiness for careers in education.
