COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Childhood, Education and Society degree is structured to provide a progressive learning experience across three years. In the first year, students explore the foundations of human development and wellbeing, children’s rights, inclusive learning strategies, and safeguarding principles. Modules such as human development and wellbeing, professional identity, creative pedagogies, and additional learning needs equip students with key academic and professional skills for reflective, ethical, and inclusive practice in early years and educational settings. In the second year, the focus shifts to deepening understanding of inclusive education, leadership, collaborative practice, social justice, and the use of learning environments and technologies. Students study research methods, design for learning, leadership and teamwork, educational technologies, and equity and social justice, preparing them to innovate and lead in diverse educational contexts. The final year emphasises critical engagement with contemporary and global issues in education, including multilingualism, sustainability, neurodivergence, and inclusive leadership. Students also undertake an independent research project, allowing in-depth exploration of a topic of personal and professional interest. Modules such as global classrooms, sustainable practice, contemporary issues, and multilingualism equip graduates with the knowledge, skills, and experience to advocate for children and young people, contribute meaningfully to education, and pursue careers in teaching, early years, community work, social care, or further postgraduate study.
