COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Anthropology and History program is designed to develop students’ understanding of human societies and historical developments over three years. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in both subjects by studying human diversity, social organisation, and major historical events. They choose modules from both anthropology and history, learning about topics such as people’s interactions with the environment, cultural beliefs, myths and mythology, ethics, religion, and the development of civilisations. History modules introduce students to different historical periods and methods of studying the past, including the modern world, medieval societies, and everyday life in ancient cultures. In the second year, students deepen their knowledge by exploring more complex social and historical themes. Modules examine topics such as global justice movements, war and conflict, multicultural societies, political economy, and issues of gender, violence, and empire. Opportunities for professional placements may also be available, helping students gain practical experience. In the final year, students focus on specialised topics and complete an independent research project that allows them to explore a chosen subject in depth. Optional modules cover themes such as global genocides, African modernities, women and religion, Enlightenment ideas, and international political economy. Throughout the program, students develop strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills relevant to a wide range of careers.
