COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Animation and VFX program develops students’ creative and technical abilities across three years of study. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in animation and visual effects by studying core areas such as visual studies, character animation, virtual production, and environment design. They also learn the basics of 3D modelling and explore different perspectives within the animation industry. Additional modules focus on academic and professional development as well as the positive impact that visual effects can have in media and storytelling. In the second year, students advance their practical skills and creative understanding through modules such as advanced character animation, body mechanics, and creature animation. They also explore virtual production design, experimental animation techniques, and visual effects while continuing to develop their creative craft. Sound design is introduced to help students enhance the overall quality of their visual productions. In the final year, students focus on professional preparation and specialised work. They complete a major independent project that demonstrates their creative and technical abilities while studying emerging trends in the animation industry. Modules such as advanced character performance, personal portfolio development, and advanced lighting and rendering help students refine their skills and prepare for careers in animation, visual effects, film, television, and digital media production.
