COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Adventure Filmmaking program is structured over three years to develop students’ filmmaking abilities alongside adventure and environmental knowledge. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in filmmaking while exploring the relationship between adventure and ecology. They study modules such as Introduction to Filmmaking, Film Production, and Learning in the Digital Era, while also developing practical outdoor skills through Foundation Adventure Skills and Managing Risk in Adventure. The course also introduces contemporary global challenges and encourages students to think about how filmmaking can create positive impact. In the second year, students expand their creative and technical skills while focusing on adventure leadership and environmental storytelling. They learn techniques for adventure, wildlife, and environmental imaging, and explore innovative areas such as aerial filmmaking. Modules also focus on creativity, value creation, and building a personal brand to support sustainable employment in the creative sector. Students further develop expedition and leadership skills and may also choose opportunities for international study abroad. In the final year, students apply their knowledge through advanced creative and professional projects. They create multiplatform media content, analyse critical incidents in adventure environments, and complete a major client project alongside an independent project that allows personal creative expression. A review of the creative industries prepares students for careers in adventure, documentary, and environmental filmmaking.
