COURSE CURRICULUM

The Water and Environmental Engineering MSc provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices necessary to manage water and environmental systems effectively. In the first semester, students develop a strong foundation in water treatment, wastewater treatment, and the global challenges related to water and health, equipping them with the skills to address pressing issues in water quality and environmental protection. Optional modules allow students to explore infrastructure systems, their interdependencies, and resilience, as well as infrastructure asset management, enabling a broader understanding of the technical and organisational aspects of sustainable water management. In the second semester, the focus shifts to water resources management and hydraulic modelling, geographical information science, remote sensing, sustainability, and the application of nature-based solutions in environmental engineering. These modules ensure students are able to integrate advanced engineering techniques with environmental and sustainability considerations. Across both semesters, students undertake a dissertation project that allows them to conduct independent research, apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems, and develop critical analytical and problem-solving skills. By combining rigorous technical training with practical and research-based learning, the MSc prepares graduates for careers in water management, environmental consultancy, public sector organisations, international development, and research institutions, enabling them to contribute effectively to sustainable and resilient environmental systems.
