COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sustainable Development MSc provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the scientific, economic, and social dimensions of sustainability, equipping them with the skills to address pressing global challenges. In the first semester, students study core modules including Environmental Science and Society, Corporate Sustainability, and Foundations and Applications of Sustainable Development, which provide a strong grounding in environmental principles, sustainable business practices, and interdisciplinary approaches to sustainability. Optional modules allow students to focus on specific areas of interest, such as Life Cycle Thinking and the Circular Economy, Environmental Auditing and Management Systems, or to gain practical experience through an industrial placement. In the second semester, compulsory study in Ecological Economics deepens understanding of the interconnections between environmental and economic systems, while optional modules like Transitions to a Low Carbon Economy, Environmental Law, Life Cycle Assessment, and the Psychology of Sustainable Development provide further opportunities to specialise. Across both semesters, students may engage in internships or placements to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts, enhancing practical skills and employability. The program culminates in a dissertation project, allowing students to conduct independent research that integrates their learning and contributes to solutions for sustainable development challenges. Graduates are prepared for careers in government, industry, NGOs, and international organisations, equipped to drive impactful change and promote environmental, social, and economic sustainability globally.
