COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Public Affairs and Policy program offers an in-depth exploration of the theory and practice of political engagement, policy development, and public affairs in a rapidly changing global context. Designed to develop both analytical and practical skills, the course prepares students for careers in government, lobbying, policy analysis, and related fields. In the first semester, students undertake compulsory modules such as Introduction to Research and Negotiating and Lobbying in Public Affairs, which provide essential foundations in research methods and strategic engagement with political actors. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning, covering areas like Political Communication and Campaigning, Political Leadership, Planetary Politics, Sustainable Development, International Business Management, and Behaviour Change. The second semester builds on this foundation with compulsory modules including Research in Practice and Activism, Participation and Party Organisation, enabling students to apply theory to real-world political contexts. Optional modules extend learning into areas such as International Trade, Political Economy, Environmental Law, Applied Policy Analysis, Criminal Justice, Corporate Crime, Cybercrime, and Ethics in conflict situations. Across the academic year, students complete a compulsory dissertation or a postgraduate placement, providing practical experience or independent research opportunities. By combining theoretical knowledge, applied skills, and experiential learning, the program equips graduates to navigate complex political and policy environments with confidence and competence.
