COURSE CURRICULUM

The Process Systems Engineering MSc provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop advanced skills in the design, optimisation, and management of complex industrial processes. In the first semester, students undertake core modules in optimisation and decision making, process modelling and simulation, and advanced process control, equipping them with essential tools for analysing and improving process efficiency. Optional modules such as chemical product design and technology, business, and research seminars allow students to tailor their learning to their specific interests and career goals. In the second semester, the focus shifts to process and energy integration, process systems design, and supply chain management, providing a practical understanding of how to develop efficient, safe, and sustainable industrial operations. Additional optional modules include knowledge-based systems and artificial intelligence, biomass processing technology, process safety and operations integrity, and transitions to a low carbon economy, further enhancing students’ expertise in emerging technologies and sustainable practices. Across both semesters, students complete a research dissertation, enabling them to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world industrial problems while developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and research skills. By combining rigorous academic study with practical application, the program prepares graduates for careers in process engineering, operations management, and technology development, as well as for further research in applied engineering and industrial sciences.
