COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medical Physics MSc is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of physics as applied to medicine, healthcare, and advanced technologies. In the first semester, students can choose from a wide range of optional modules, including radiation measurement, radiation physics, radiation laboratory skills, experimental and professional skills for medical physics, and foundational biology relevant to radiation applications. More specialized topics such as superconducting quantum processors, modern financial methods, and frontiers in physics are also available, allowing students to tailor their learning according to their interests and career goals. In the second semester, students undertake a compulsory research project and dissertation, providing essential hands-on research experience and fostering independent scientific inquiry. Optional modules in this semester cover advanced areas such as therapy physics, diagnostic applications of ionising radiation, non-ionising radiation imaging, explosive stellar phenomena, general relativity, nuclear energy and applications, advanced quantum mechanics, quantum technology, and quantum algorithms, alongside computing applications for medical physics and radiation protection. This combination of theoretical exploration, practical laboratory skills, and research experience ensures that graduates are well-equipped with the technical expertise, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities required for careers in medical physics, healthcare technology, research, and related scientific fields, while also preparing them for further postgraduate study or professional accreditation.
