COURSE CURRICULUM

The Nuclear Science and Radiation Protection MSc offers a comprehensive first-year curriculum that combines foundational theory with practical skills in nuclear science and radiation applications. In the first semester, students develop essential laboratory competencies through courses in radiation laboratory skills, which provide hands-on experience in handling, measuring, and analyzing radioactive materials. Core theoretical modules such as atomic and nuclear physics introduce the structure and behavior of atomic nuclei, while radiation physics and measurement courses equip students with the techniques necessary for accurate radiation detection and quantification. The introduction to biology and radiation biology enables students to understand the interactions between radiation and living organisms, a critical aspect for applications in medicine and environmental monitoring. In the second semester, the program emphasizes applied knowledge and research through a research project and dissertation, allowing students to explore specialized topics in depth. Modules on nuclear energy and applications, explosive stellar phenomena, and radioactivity and nuclear metrology broaden students’ understanding of nuclear processes in both terrestrial and astrophysical contexts. Additionally, computing for medical physics and radiation protection develops skills in data analysis, simulation, and modeling relevant to the field. Together, these courses prepare students to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical expertise, ensuring they are well-equipped for careers in nuclear science, radiation safety, medical physics, and related industries.
