COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in International Intervention is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the complex dynamics involved in global intervention, covering ethical, legal, political, and economic dimensions. In the first semester, students engage with core modules including Introduction to Research, Intervention I: Making War, and Intervention II: Theorising Intervention, which build a strong foundation in understanding the causes, processes, and implications of intervention. Optional modules such as Theories of International Relations and Planetary Politics allow students to explore broader perspectives on global governance, cities, and international order. In the second semester, the curriculum continues with compulsory modules like Research in Practice and Making Peace: Post-Conflict Processes, which emphasize applied skills and practical understanding of post-conflict reconstruction and peacebuilding. Additional optional modules, including International Trade, International Political Economy, International Security and Defence, Critical Studies on Security and Terrorism, and Ethics, Killing, and War, enable students to tailor their learning to specific interests and career goals. The program culminates in a dissertation, allowing students to undertake independent, research-led projects. An optional postgraduate placement provides practical experience, enhancing professional skills. Through this program, students develop analytical, research, and policy-making competencies, preparing them for careers in diplomacy, international organisations, non-governmental organisations, policy advisory roles, and governmental or multilateral institutions.
