COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Environmental Psychology offers an in-depth exploration of the relationship between human behaviour, sustainability, and environmental design, providing students with the skills and knowledge needed to address complex environmental challenges. In the first semester, students engage with core topics such as social change and influence, qualitative research methods, and key questions in environmental psychology, establishing a strong theoretical foundation. Depending on prior experience, students may also choose a research training module to enhance their methodological skills, selecting either Advanced Research Methods and Design for those with a background in psychology or a related social science, or Academic Research Training for those without. The second semester focuses on quantitative research methods and specialised areas including the psychology of sustainable development and the psychology of architecture and planning research, allowing students to examine the impact of environmental factors on human behaviour. Optional modules provide further opportunities to explore topics such as behaviour change, global environmental challenges, healthcare psychology, and positive development across the life course. Throughout the academic year, students undertake a dissertation project, enabling them to apply research methods to a real-world environmental psychology problem and develop critical analytical skills. Graduates are prepared to contribute to environmental consultancy, policy-making, urban planning, and research, equipped to promote sustainable behaviour and improve human-environment interactions.
