COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Cyber Security and Cybercrime provides a comprehensive, practice-focused program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and combat digital threats. In the first semester, students explore criminological theories to gain insight into the underlying causes of criminal behaviour, alongside social data analytics and qualitative field methods that enable them to analyse patterns of crime and interpret complex datasets. The curriculum also includes digital forensics, providing hands-on experience in investigating cyber incidents and gathering evidence in a secure, methodical manner. In the second semester, the focus expands to information security management, teaching students how to implement effective strategies to protect digital infrastructures, while modules on crime and offending, law, society, and social control contextualise cybercrime within broader societal and legal frameworks. Additionally, the cybercrime and cybersecurity module examines the technical and organisational aspects of cyber threats, emphasising contemporary tools, techniques, and preventative measures. Across both semesters, students undertake a masters dissertation, which allows them to conduct in-depth, independent research into a specific area of cybercrime or security, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world problems. By combining analytical, technical, and research skills, this MSc prepares graduates for careers in cyber security, digital forensics, law enforcement, consultancy, and related industries, addressing the growing global demand for experts in protecting digital environments.
