COURSE CURRICULUM

The Corporate Environmental Management MSc at Surrey provides students with an in-depth understanding of environmental and sustainability issues within corporate contexts. In the first semester, students study core topics such as life cycle thinking and the circular economy, environmental auditing and management systems, and corporate sustainability, which provide a solid foundation in sustainable business practices and strategic decision-making. Optional modules allow students to explore related areas such as environmental science, sustainable development, and industrial placements, giving practical insights into real-world corporate sustainability challenges. The second semester focuses on environmental law as a compulsory module, ensuring students understand the regulatory frameworks that shape corporate environmental practices. Additional optional modules cover ecological economics, low carbon transitions, life cycle assessment, and the psychology of sustainable development, equipping students with multidisciplinary perspectives and practical tools for addressing environmental challenges. Across both semesters, students undertake a dissertation, enabling them to conduct independent research, apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems, and develop critical analytical skills. The course combines theoretical learning, applied research, and practical experience, preparing graduates for careers in corporate sustainability, environmental consultancy, policy development, and roles within governmental and non-governmental organizations.
