COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Civil Engineering program is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and practical skills in the design, analysis, and management of civil infrastructure, preparing them for careers in construction, consultancy, and research. The course offers a broad range of optional modules in the first semester, allowing students to specialise in areas such as prestressed concrete bridge design, steel building design, structural mechanics and finite elements, advanced soil mechanics, energy geotechnics, water and wastewater treatment, and infrastructure systems and asset management. These modules equip students with the technical expertise needed to address complex engineering challenges and develop sustainable solutions. In the second semester, all students undertake a core module in sustainability and infrastructure, ensuring a strong focus on environmentally responsible engineering practices. Additional optional modules allow further specialisation in steel and composite bridge design, concrete building design, deep foundations, earth retaining structures, water resources management, building information modelling, GIS and remote sensing, and nature-based solutions for environmental engineering. Throughout the program, students also complete a dissertation project that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical research, fostering critical thinking, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities. By combining flexibility, technical depth, and applied experience, the MSc prepares graduates to make meaningful contributions to the advancement of civil engineering in diverse professional contexts.
