COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Translation and Interpreting Studies offers a comprehensive and practical approach to preparing students for professional careers in the language industry. In the first semester, students focus on core modules such as Professional Translation Practice I and Principles and Challenges of Translation and Interpreting, providing a strong foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of translation. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning to specific interests, including writing and rewriting for translators, translation as human-computer interaction, and an introduction to artificial intelligence for translators and interpreters, integrating modern technologies into their skill set. In the second semester, the course continues with Professional Translation Practice II as a compulsory module, while students can select optional modules such as audiovisual translation, smart technologies for translation, and translation for the creative industries, further broadening their professional competencies. Across both semesters, students complete a dissertation in Translation and Interpreting Studies, enabling them to apply research skills and in-depth analysis to a specialised area of translation practice. Language options for the Professional Translation Practice modules cover a wide range, including Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish paired with English, requiring native or near-native proficiency. This combination of theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and technological expertise ensures graduates are fully prepared to meet the demands of the global translation and language services sector.
