COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLB (Hons) degree at Surrey Law School offers a comprehensive legal education designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career in law. In the first year, students study foundational subjects including legal systems, contract law, criminal law, tort law, and public law, providing a solid understanding of the core principles of English law. The second year builds on this foundation with public law II, land law, and equity and trusts, while offering optional modules such as environmental law, sentencing and penal policy, international law, law and economics, and the law of armed conflict, allowing students to explore specialized areas of interest. In the final year, students choose from a wide range of advanced optional modules, including employment law, tax law, company law, intellectual property law, cyber crime, medical law and ethics, financial regulation, and ethics and regulation of artificial intelligence, among others. Students can also undertake a dissertation and study family and child law, providing opportunities for in-depth research and specialization. Throughout the degree, students develop critical legal skills such as research, analysis, advocacy, and professional practice. The course combines theoretical understanding with practical application, preparing graduates for a variety of legal careers, including roles as solicitors, barristers, and legal advisors, as well as careers in policy, business, and international law.
