COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law with Criminology LLB at Surrey combines a rigorous study of law with an in-depth exploration of criminology, preparing students for careers in criminal justice, policing, legal practice, and public policy. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge through modules in crime and society, legal systems, criminal law, contract law, public law, and an introduction to criminal justice systems. This early exposure provides a solid understanding of both legal frameworks and the social contexts of crime. In the second year, students build on this foundation with administrative and European Union law, tort law, and land law, while optional modules allow them to explore specialized topics such as crime and technology, drugs and society, policing, and the media’s role in crime, fostering critical thinking about contemporary criminological issues. In the final year, students deepen their expertise with advanced law modules and criminology-focused options, including youth crime, victims and victimology, sentencing and penal policy, cybercrime, corporate and white-collar crime, and legal ethics, as well as family and child law. A dissertation option enables independent research, integrating law and criminology. Across all years, the degree emphasizes analytical skills, legal reasoning, and an understanding of the social, cultural, and technological factors influencing crime and justice, equipping graduates with the knowledge and practical skills to impact the legal and criminological sectors effectively.
