COURSE CURRICULUM

The BVMSci Veterinary Medicine and Science degree is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience required for a career in veterinary medicine. In the first year, students establish a strong foundation in the biological and clinical sciences through modules covering animals in society, the veterinary professional, and the structure and function of body systems, including cells, integument, alimentary, cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, urological, reproductive, endocrine, neurological systems, and organs of special senses. The second year focuses on the pathology and disease processes affecting these systems, with modules in general pathology, infectious disease concepts, and epidemiology and public health, alongside continued exploration of animals in society. In the third year, students advance to core veterinary medicine modules and research training, learning evidence-based veterinary practice, critical appraisal, data interpretation, and study design. The fourth year emphasizes clinical application through modules in zoological medicine, one health, and advanced veterinary practice, including anaesthesia, surgery, and patient care, while consolidating veterinary medicine knowledge. The fifth and final year immerses students in intramural rotations, providing extensive hands-on clinical experience across multiple veterinary disciplines. Throughout the program, students develop scientific understanding, practical skills, professional competence, and critical thinking, preparing them for successful careers in veterinary practice, research, public health, or further postgraduate study.
