COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Veterinary Biosciences degree offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the biological sciences underpinning veterinary medicine. In the first year, students study essential topics such as Cell Biology, Microbiology, Veterinary Anatomy and Physiology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Principles of Evolution, and Fundamental Molecules and Processes in Biochemistry, alongside practical skills in physiology. This year establishes the core knowledge required for understanding animal biology and disease processes. In the second year, students advance to specialized subjects including Food Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Experimental Biology, Introduction to Immunology, Animal Nutrition, and Animal and Plant Ecology. Optional modules such as Medical Microbiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, and Biodiversity allow students to tailor their learning to their interests while developing practical research and analytical skills. The third year focuses on applied and professional aspects of veterinary biosciences, with compulsory modules in Applied Immunology and Animal Infectious Diseases, supported by a substantial Research Project. Students can also choose from optional modules including Biochemistry, Animal Diversity, Biomedical Microbial Products, Environment and Sustainability, Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases, Food Security, and Animal Behaviour. Across all three years, the degree combines theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory experience, research training, and optional industry-focused learning, preparing graduates for careers in veterinary science, biomedical research, animal health, and related fields.
