COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Sport and Exercise Science degree at Surrey provides a comprehensive understanding of human performance, health, and wellbeing, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. In the first year, students build foundational skills through modules such as Skill Acquisition and Research Methods, Contemporary Studies in Nutrition, Food and Exercise, Cell Biology and Biological Chemistry, Biochemistry, Introduction to Biomechanics, Integrating Human Physiology, and Exercise for Health and Fitness. These modules establish a solid grounding in biology, physiology, and the principles of exercise science. The second year develops more specialized expertise with compulsory modules in Sports Psychology, Sports and Exercise Biomechanics, Human Nutrition for Sport and Exercise, Research Methods for Nutrition and Exercise, and Performance Physiology and Training. Optional modules allow exploration of areas such as Pathology, Performance Analysis, and Musculoskeletal Injury and Rehabilitation, enabling students to tailor their learning. In the final year, students undertake advanced study and applied research through modules including Application of Research and Professional Skills, Strength and Conditioning, and a Nutrition and Exercise Research Project. Optional modules cover Exercise Prescription, Sports Nutrition, Injury Prevention, Public Health Nutrition, Biological Rhythms, and Psychology of Exercise. This combination of core study, practical experience, and research training equips graduates with the skills and knowledge needed for careers in sports performance, health and fitness, rehabilitation, coaching, and further postgraduate study.
