The BSc Politics and Sociology degree offers a comprehensive exploration of how political systems and social structures shape the world we live in. In the first year, students are introduced to core themes through modules such as Conceptualising the Social World, Researching the Social World, Introduction to Politics, Social Divisions and Contexts, and Politics of Crisis. These provide a foundation in political theory, sociological perspectives, and research skills. In the second year, the focus expands to practical and global issues with compulsory modules like Making Public Policy: Theory and Practice, Global Social Challenges, and Comparative Government and Politics. Students also choose from a range of options including International Political Economy, Migration and the Politics of Identity, International Organisations, and research methods, which allow them to develop both qualitative and quantitative research expertise. By the final year, students can specialize in areas of interest, with options spanning across both disciplines. Choices include modules such as Populism and Democracy, Political Communication, Sociology of Education, Cultures of Race and Racism, Youth, Culture and Media, Hate Crime, and Activism. The course ensures a balanced mix of politics and sociology, equipping students with analytical, research, and critical thinking skills for diverse career paths.
