COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Politics and Economics degree provides a strong interdisciplinary foundation by combining political analysis with economic theory and methods. In the first year, students develop essential skills through modules such as Introductory Economics, Quantitative Methods, Mathematics for Economics, Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, Debates in British Politics, and Introduction to Politics. This ensures they gain both a theoretical and practical grounding in how political and economic systems operate. The second year advances into more complex study with compulsory modules including Intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, International Political Economy, and an introduction to econometrics through Statistical Models for Understanding Politics. Students then select from a range of optional modules such as Comparative Politics, Elections and Voters, International Security, or Evolution of International Society, tailoring their studies to particular interests. In the final year, students have the flexibility to specialize, with a wide choice of optional modules spanning both disciplines. Options include Behavioural Economics, International Trade, Public Economics, Environmental Economics, US Foreign Policy, Populism and Democracy, Political Leadership, or Activism and Participation. This structure develops strong analytical, quantitative, and critical thinking skills, preparing graduates for careers in government, finance, international organizations, policy analysis, or further academic study.
