COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Physics with Astronomy program provides a strong foundation in physics while allowing students to specialize in the study of the universe. In the first year, students build essential skills through modules such as Fundamentals of Physics, Essential Mathematics, Scientific Investigation Skills, and Oscillations and Waves, followed by The Universe, Properties of Matter, Atoms and Quanta, and Mathematical and Computational Physics. This establishes both theoretical understanding and practical abilities in core areas. The second year develops deeper knowledge through Energy, Entropy and Numerical Physics, Electromagnetism, Solid State Physics, and Quantum Physics, while semester two explores advanced applications including From Atoms to Lasers, Electromagnetic Waves, and Nuclear and Particle Physics, alongside a dedicated module in Astronomy. The final year emphasizes research and specialization, with compulsory modules in Research Techniques in Astronomy and Frontiers in Physics, plus the opportunity to undertake an independent Final Year Project. Students can tailor their studies through optional modules such as Lagrangian and Hamiltonian Dynamics, Quantum Computation, Superconducting Quantum Processors, Advanced Nuclear Astrophysics, Medical Imaging, or STEM Education. This carefully structured program combines core physics, astronomical study, and research experience, preparing graduates with analytical, mathematical, and investigative skills suited for careers in science, research, or technology.
