COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Tourism and Hospitality Management degree at Surrey is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the tourism and hospitality industries, combining core business and management studies with specialist sector knowledge. In the first year, students gain foundational skills through compulsory modules covering services marketing, fundamentals of service delivery, tourism management, the visitor economy, financial accounting in service industries, rooms division management, tourism and society, and sustainability in aviation and tourism. These modules provide both theoretical knowledge and practical insights into the operational aspects of the sector. The second year builds on this foundation, focusing on applied financial management, organisational behaviour, revenue management, digital innovation, operations analysis, and digital marketing, with opportunities to explore optional topics such as gastronomy, venue management, destination management, tourism field trips, visitor attraction management, intercultural management, and airport management. In the final year, students develop strategic, analytical, and research skills through compulsory modules in business research methods and strategic management, while optional modules allow for specialisation in areas including digital events management, leadership, tourism economics, strategic revenue management, crisis management, hospitality operations, innovation and development, consultancy projects, strategic brand management, and tourism strategy and innovation. The program integrates practical experience, industry engagement, and professional development, preparing graduates to excel in tourism, hospitality, and related global business environments.
