COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Financial Mathematics degree provides a comprehensive program that blends mathematics, statistics, and economics to prepare students for careers in finance, investment, and quantitative analysis. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in introductory economics, calculus, algebra, probability, statistics, linear algebra, multivariable calculus, and mathematical programming, developing essential analytical and problem-solving skills. In the second year, the curriculum advances to intermediate microeconomics, stochastic processes, ordinary differential equations, linear statistical models, numerical and computational methods, and mathematical statistics, with opportunities to explore optional topics such as operations research, optimization, curves and surfaces, and complex variables. By the third year, students apply their knowledge to financial and mathematical contexts, studying derivatives markets, corporate finance, portfolio management, mathematical time series, and additional topics like Bayesian inference, mathematics of weather and climate, international trade, and games, markets, and information. The final year also includes a literature review and an optional BSc project, allowing students to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Throughout the degree, students develop quantitative, computational, and data analysis skills, enabling them to model financial systems, assess risk, and interpret complex data. Graduates are well-equipped for roles in quantitative analysis, financial modelling, investment management, risk assessment, and other mathematically demanding positions in the finance and economics sectors.
