COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Economics and Mathematics degree provides students with a comprehensive foundation in both quantitative mathematics and economic theory, preparing them for careers that require high-level analytical and problem-solving skills. In the first year, students develop core knowledge in introductory economics, principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics, and essential mathematical techniques, including calculus, algebra, probability, statistics, linear algebra, and multivariable calculus, alongside employability skills. The second year deepens this understanding with intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, introductory econometrics, ordinary differential equations, stochastic processes, and linear statistical models, while optional modules allow further specialization in advanced econometrics and economic theory. Students continue to enhance their employability through applied projects and practical experience. In the third year, the program emphasizes advanced interdisciplinary applications, offering modules such as time series econometrics, games, markets and information, behavioural economics, international trade, mathematical ecology and epidemiology, Bayesian inference, manifolds and topology, and blockchain fundamentals. Semester two includes further applied econometrics, computational macroeconomics, economics projects, international finance, money and banking, mathematical time series, quantum mechanics, and graphs and networks. Students must select a balanced combination of economics and mathematics modules, integrating rigorous mathematical methods with real-world economic analysis. This equips graduates with versatile skills suitable for careers in finance, economics, data science, policy analysis, and other analytically demanding sectors.
