COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Economics and Finance degree provides a comprehensive education in economic theory, financial systems, and quantitative analysis, preparing students for careers in global finance and economics. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through introductory economics, quantitative methods, economic data analysis, statistics, mathematics for economics, and principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics, alongside employability skills to prepare for professional life. In the second year, the curriculum advances with intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, econometrics, financial accounting, fundamentals of financial economics, and quantitative portfolio theory and investment. Students also have the option to explore topics such as world economic history, international organisations, political ideologies, or financial and business history, while further developing employability skills. The third year focuses on applied finance and advanced economics, including derivatives markets, corporate finance and portfolio management, international trade, behavioural economics, environmental economics, competition and regulation policy, time series econometrics, and blockchain fundamentals. Students also have opportunities to study public economics, money and banking, international finance, computational methods in macroeconomics, labour economics, and topics in development economics, as well as completing a research-based economics project. Across the three years, students gain the analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills needed for financial institutions, consultancy, policy-making, and other roles in the global financial sector, ensuring they graduate with expertise and practical experience in economics and finance.
