COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Criminology and Forensic Investigation degree offers a comprehensive exploration of criminal behaviour, forensic methods, and the criminal justice system, combining theoretical study with practical experience. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules such as academic skills for criminology, fundamentals of forensic science for social scientists, introduction to criminal justice systems, forensic criminology, explaining and responding to crime and deviance, and researching the social world. These modules establish the essential understanding of crime, its societal impact, and basic investigative principles. In the second year, the focus expands to the psychology of criminal behaviour, criminal investigation practice and application, and forensic investigation methods, alongside optional modules such as crime and technology, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and global social challenges. Students also study policing and the role of law enforcement while developing hands-on investigative skills in a controlled environment. The third year emphasizes advanced practice with major crime management and investigation, and the future of forensic investigation, supported by a final year project that integrates research and practical application. Optional modules allow students to explore youth crime, cybercrime, corporate responsibility, victims and victimology, and hate crime. Graduates leave with strong analytical, investigative, and communication skills, prepared for careers in forensic science, criminal investigation, law enforcement, and related fields.
