COURSE CURRICULUM

This BSc Criminology and Sociology degree provides a detailed understanding of crime, human behaviour, and social structures, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to analyze and respond to societal issues. In the first year, students explore fundamental concepts such as crime and society, conceptual frameworks for understanding social life, criminal justice systems, becoming a criminologist, crime and deviance, and research methods, laying a strong foundation in both criminology and sociology. The second year builds on this with compulsory modules in quantitative and qualitative research methods, global social challenges, and punishment and society, while offering optional modules including crime and technology, psychology of criminal behaviour, migration and identity, drugs and society, and policing, allowing students to tailor their studies to specific interests. In the final year, students complete a major independent research project and choose from a wide range of optional modules such as prisons and prisoners, youth and crime, victims and victimology, hate crime, cybercrime, corporate crime, and sociological studies on education, mental health, and social inequality. The program develops critical thinking, analytical, and investigative skills, preparing graduates for careers in criminal justice, social services, government, policy, research, and other roles that require insight into both crime and societal dynamics.
