COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Chemistry with Forensic Investigation degree provides a comprehensive program that integrates core chemistry principles with forensic science applications. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in analytical chemistry, organic and physical chemistry, the periodicity and reactivity of elements, and essential mathematics, computing, and statistical skills. They are also introduced to the fundamentals of forensic science, learning the processes from crime scene to court and developing transferable skills necessary for professional practice. In the second year, the focus shifts to more advanced topics, including organic carbon-carbon bond formation, heterocyclic chemistry, applied organic spectroscopy, advances in analytical instrumentation, and materials chemistry. Students also explore phases, colloids, electronic transitions, the structure and bonding of inorganic compounds, and forensic chemistry. Optional modules such as bioorganic chemistry, drug discovery, computer modeling, and principles of radiochemistry allow students to tailor their learning to their interests. In the final year, students engage in specialized forensic science topics, advanced analytical method development, and applications in physical and medicinal chemistry. They undertake a research project, applying theoretical knowledge to practical investigations and developing independent research skills. Graduates emerge with a robust understanding of both chemistry and forensic techniques, equipped for careers in forensic laboratories, analytical science, and related fields, with strong problem-solving and presentation abilities.
