COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science degree provides a comprehensive foundation in the scientific principles underpinning human health, disease, and medical research. In the first year, students gain core knowledge in Cell Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Physiology, Biochemistry, and Practical and Biomedical Bacteriology, alongside skills for academic and laboratory success. This establishes a strong base in both theory and hands-on techniques. The second year builds on these fundamentals with advanced study in Molecular Biology and Genetics, Integration of Physiological Systems, Medical Microbiology, Immunology, Pharmacology, Analytical and Clinical Biochemistry, and Pathology. Optional modules such as Biochemistry of Enzymes and Metabolism or Neuroscience allow students to tailor their learning to individual interests while deepening understanding of biomedical processes. In the final year, the program emphasizes clinical application, research, and specialization. Core modules include Clinical Immunology and Immunohaematology, Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases, and Cancer Pathogenesis and Therapeutics, complemented by a substantial Research Project. Optional modules such as Advanced Pharmacology, Systems Biology, Microbial Communities, Human Genetics, and Advanced Virology enable students to explore emerging areas in biomedical science. Throughout the course, emphasis on critical thinking, experimental design, and professional skills ensures that graduates are well-prepared for careers in medical research, clinical laboratories, biotechnology, healthcare, or further postgraduate study.
