COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Biochemistry degree offers a structured three-year program that combines foundational knowledge with advanced study and research experience. In the first year, students develop core understanding in Cell Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Physiology, and Fundamental Chemistry and Biochemistry, while optional modules such as Practical and Biomedical Bacteriology or Principles of Evolution allow exploration of specific interests. Emphasis is placed on developing essential laboratory, analytical, and academic skills to support success in scientific study. In the second year, the focus shifts to more specialized areas, including Biochemistry of Enzymes and Metabolism, Integration of Physiological Systems, Analytical and Clinical Biochemistry, Introduction to Immunology, Pathology, and Pharmacology, with options like Neuroscience or Medical Microbiology to broaden understanding. Practical and theoretical knowledge is integrated to prepare students for advanced study and professional applications. The final year emphasizes independent research and advanced topics, with compulsory modules in Biochemistry of Receptors and Energy Metabolism and Human Genetics, alongside a significant Research Project.
