COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Chemical and Petroleum Engineering degree is structured to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices essential to careers in the oil, gas, energy, and petrochemical industries. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in engineering and science through modules such as Engineering Materials and Sustainability, Science Principles for Engineers, Mass and Energy Balances, Engineering Mathematics, Petroleum Fundamentals and Chemistry, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, Transferable and Laboratory Skills, and Mathematics 2. These courses develop core technical knowledge alongside practical laboratory experience and essential problem-solving skills. In the second year, the focus shifts to applied chemical engineering processes, with compulsory modules including Separation Processes and HYSYS, Heat Transfer and Laboratory, Computation for Chemical Engineers, Engineering Systems and Management, Control, Transfer Processes, Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics, and Reaction Engineering. These subjects deepen students’ understanding of process design, analysis, and operational control. The final year emphasizes advanced topics and professional application, including Energy and Industrial Systems, Advanced Mass Transfer, Advanced Chemical and Petrochemical Reaction Engineering, Refinery Separation Processes, Process Operation and Management, and a Design Project in Chemical Engineering. Through this combination of theoretical learning, practical experience, and project work, graduates develop the technical expertise, analytical abilities, and professional competencies required to pursue careers in chemical and petroleum engineering, process design, energy management, and industrial consultancy, with a focus on sustainable practices and innovative solutions.
