COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Biomedical Engineering degree provides a comprehensive program combining core engineering principles with medical and biological applications. In the first year, students establish a strong foundation through modules in Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, Design and Component Production, Materials: Properties and Performance, Mechanics, Engineering Mathematics, and Electronic Circuits and Devices, complemented by Experimental and Professional Skills and a Personal and Professional Development program. The second year builds on this foundation, integrating Human Biology and Biomechanics with engineering-focused modules such as Design Skills, Deformation and Vibration of Structures, Control, Electronics and Embedded Systems, and Numerical Methods and Applied Programming. The Design, Make and Evaluate module provides hands-on experience, encouraging practical problem-solving and innovation. In the final year, students focus on advanced biomedical applications, including Biomedical Signal Processing and Clinical Rehabilitation, while also developing professional and managerial skills through Engineering Management. Students undertake both a Group Design Project and an Individual Project, allowing them to apply their knowledge to real-world biomedical engineering challenges. Optional modules such as Medical Imaging and Materials Selection in Mechanical Design enable further specialization. Overall, the program equips graduates with the technical expertise, practical experience, and interdisciplinary understanding necessary to pursue careers in biomedical engineering, healthcare technology, research, or further postgraduate study, preparing them to develop innovative solutions that improve medical diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
