COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the Psychology MSc conversion course, students undertake a comprehensive range of compulsory modules designed to build a solid foundation in psychology and research skills. The module "Becoming a Researcher in Psychology" introduces students to the essential skills and knowledge required to conduct psychological research effectively. Alongside this, "Developmental and Biological Psychology Across the Lifespan" explores key concepts related to human development and biological processes throughout different stages of life. The module "Exploring Difference: A Quantitative Approach" focuses on quantitative research methods, equipping students with the ability to analyze and interpret numerical data in psychological contexts. Complementing this is the "Theory and Application of Qualitative Research Methods," which develops students’ understanding of qualitative approaches, including how to design, conduct, and analyze research that explores human experiences and behaviors in depth. A significant component of the year is the "Psychology Dissertation," a 60-credit project that allows students to apply their research skills to an original investigation under supervision, demonstrating their ability to conduct independent scholarly work. The "Society and the Mind" module examines the interaction between social factors and cognitive processes, providing insight into how social environments influence psychological functioning. Additionally, the "Steps to Success MSc Psychology" module supports students in their transition to postgraduate study, helping them develop essential academic and professional skills. Together, these modules provide a balanced and thorough introduction to psychology, combining theoretical knowledge with practical research experience, which prepares students for advanced study and professional development in the field.
