COURSE CURRICULUM

The first year of the MSc Nursing Practice (Mental Health) course focuses on developing essential knowledge and skills required for a successful career in mental health nursing. The curriculum includes three core modules that together provide a comprehensive foundation. The module on Human Factors, Risk, Decision Making, and Uncertainty explores the complex challenges nurses face when making critical decisions in unpredictable environments. It emphasizes understanding human behavior, risk management, and strategies to reduce errors, ensuring safe and effective care delivery. The Mental Health Nursing in Practice module provides extensive hands-on experience through clinical placements, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. This module spans multiple practice periods, offering opportunities to engage with diverse patient groups and mental health services, thereby enhancing practical skills and professional confidence. Lastly, the Physical and Mental Health Assessment, Pathophysiology, and Prescribing Preparation module delivers in-depth study of both physical and mental health conditions. It covers assessment techniques, understanding of disease mechanisms, and prepares students for safe and effective prescribing practices.
