COURSE CURRICULUM

The first year of the MSc Digital Forensic Investigation program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of digital forensics and its practical applications. The course begins with a core module on Digital Forensics, which covers essential techniques and methodologies for identifying, collecting, preserving, and analyzing digital evidence in various contexts. This module equips students with the foundational knowledge required to handle complex forensic investigations involving computers, mobile devices, and other digital platforms. Complementing this, the Forensic Multimedia module focuses on the analysis of multimedia data, such as images, videos, and audio, which are increasingly important sources of evidence in modern investigations. Students learn to apply specialized tools and techniques to extract, verify, and interpret multimedia evidence accurately. A strong emphasis is placed on research skills through the Independent Research Project, a substantial component of the course where students undertake an in-depth investigation into a topic relevant to digital forensic investigation. This project allows students to apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world problems, develop critical thinking, and contribute original insights to the field. Additionally, the Statistical Approaches to Forensics module introduces students to quantitative methods and statistical analysis techniques vital for interpreting forensic data and supporting evidence in legal contexts. Together, these modules provide a balanced mix of theory, technical skills, and research capabilities, preparing graduates to work effectively in forensic environments.
