COURSE CURRICULUM

The first year of the MA International Relations program includes core modules designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of global politics, governance, and international theory. The module on Diplomacy, Law, and Governance explores the frameworks and practices that shape international interactions, focusing on how laws and governance structures influence diplomatic relations and global cooperation. This module lays the foundation for understanding the legal and institutional contexts in which international actors operate. The International Relations Theory module offers a deep dive into the key theoretical approaches that explain global political dynamics, such as realism, liberalism, constructivism, and critical theory. This theoretical grounding enables students to critically analyze and interpret international events and policies. The Changing Global Order module examines the shifting power structures and emerging trends in world politics, addressing issues such as the rise of new global powers, challenges to the existing international system, and the impact of globalization and regionalism. This helps students understand the evolving nature of global governance and international relations. Alongside these modules, students undertake a substantial Dissertation in International Studies, allowing them to conduct independent research on a topic of their choice within the field. This research project provides an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills gained throughout the course, fostering critical thinking, analytical abilities, and academic rigor. Together, these modules equip students with a broad and detailed understanding of international relations, preparing them for careers in diplomacy, international organizations, policy analysis, and related fields, as well as providing a strong foundation for further academic study.
