COURSE CURRICULUM

The first year of the International History MA program offers a comprehensive foundation in understanding global historical processes and their impact on contemporary international affairs. Students begin by studying key concepts in international history, exploring ideas such as nationalism, imperialism, globalisation, and the evolution of international relations, providing essential context for understanding the complexities of global history. The course also includes a focus on the concept of the nation-state and its development, addressing how nation-states have shaped and been shaped by historical events and international dynamics beyond their borders. Another core module, International Lives, offers a more personal perspective on history by examining the experiences of individuals who have influenced or been affected by major historical events, providing insights into how personal narratives intersect with larger historical processes. A significant part of the program is the dissertation in international studies, where students apply their research skills to investigate a specific topic of interest in depth. This independent research project enables students to engage critically with primary and secondary sources, develop original arguments, and contribute to the academic field of international history. Together, these modules equip students with a strong analytical framework and practical research experience.
