COURSE CURRICULUM

The first year of the MA Ceramics course is designed to provide a comprehensive and practical learning experience, equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in ceramic design. A major component is the Masters Project in Ceramic Design, which accounts for 60 credits and serves as an in-depth independent study. This project allows students to explore their own creative ideas while applying the technical and conceptual skills developed throughout the course.Alongside the Masters Project, students engage in Professional Practice, a 40-credit module that prepares them for working in the ceramics industry or related creative sectors. This includes developing an understanding of industry standards, business skills, and how to navigate professional environments effectively.Research Methods Seminar, worth 20 credits, offers essential training in academic research techniques, enabling students to critically evaluate existing work and develop robust methodologies for their own projects. This seminar underpins the research skills needed across the course.The Collaborative Project, a 40-credit module, encourages teamwork and interdisciplinary practice, reflecting real-world creative industry environments where collaboration is key. This experience helps students build communication and project management skills while working alongside peers from various disciplines.Finally, the Tools and Techniques module, with 20 credits, focuses on practical skills essential to ceramics.
